A trippy folk dance
Repetitive spins and turns, the same set of steps over and over again, deep breaths, shouts and screams, slaps, claps, jumps, stomps until they literally collapse… What starts as an edgy folk music quartet performing in three-quarter time evolves into a passionate journey into the archaic und corporeal roots of folk culture. Way beyond Austrian kitsch and a nostalgia for all things retro the four performers expose the power and exuberance behind traditional forms of expression. Simon Mayer, an Upper Austrian farm boy and contemporary choreographer, radically subverts the roles attributed to men in traditional folk culture with bravura and humour.
On June 28th Simon Mayer will give a Schuhplattler workshop.
