Schuhplattler (literally shoe-slapping) is much more than traditional Alpine courtship dance that is performed exclusively by men. Women and men, let’s learn this traditional dance! Let’s invent new versions, add body percussion, modern dance and ritual practices, without losing the pleasure we derive from dancing or the group dynamic of traditional folk dancing. While we are at it, why not experiment with yodelling, traditional clapping rhythms and whips? This workshop is an introductory class on the technical aspects of Schuhplattler and thee spiritual, ritual and health-giving inspirations behind this tradition.
