This exceptional South African adaptation of Büchner's tragic play includes animated film, puppet performance and human manipulation. Marie and Woyzeck are black, the others white. The play comments, with poetic and magical poignancy, on power, violence, race and class struggle. It is tantalising, challenging and compelling theater with a strong mind.
