Parasztopera (L’opéra des paysans)

Founded in 1998, the Bela Pinter company is one of the most important theater group in Hungary. L’opéra de paysans starts with the preparations of a wedding. The bride is already pregnant; her sister is jealous because she’s in love with the groom, but her father promised her to an alcoholic station agent so he could take over his land. The mother is a vamp. The father turns out not to be the real father. Actually the bride was conceived while her mother was seeing a complete stranger who went by the name «the cowboy». This is when skeletons come out of the closet, one after the other, after the other. Inspired by John Gay’s famous The Beggar’s Opera, Bela Pinter’s Peasants' Opera is made up of dramatic, sarcastic and hillarious situations. It’s an uncanny mix of baroque opera and popular hungarian music.
