Sage Francis

(New York)

At age 8, under his parents’ roof in Rhode Island, Sage Francis discovered hip hop. Today, at age 27, he has become the best American hip hop artist. Winner of many slam poetry contests, advocate of spoken word, journalism degree in hand, Sage Francis sees music like a way to rebell. His texts speak of America’s recent history, Bush, war, but also relationships and, of course, of Sage Francis. His work is cynical, paranoid, humoristic, even elegant. Beyond the strech of his references, Sage’s music is a contrast of melancholy and punk fury. And then there’s his feverish voice and perfect elocution, his surreal flow. The albums release a contagious energy. How does Sage do it ? We may never know, but then again...
