Living traditions in the box

This is the location for a film shoot, and people of Fribourg who consider themselves practitioners of a living tradition will be starring in it. The stage is a wooden box, a moving camera records the perfromance. Whether they are choral singers, bell-ringers, belly dancers, members of dairy cooperatives, St. Nick, festival associations or tandem riders – to name but a few – they all uphold a social or cultural practice which has been passed down at least two generations, and gives them a sense of belonging and identity, right here, right now. Under the deft direction of the Australian Back to Back Theatre company, the film offers a sharp yet entertaining look at the living traditions of Fribourg in 2016. Are your ready for your close-up?
