Festival Belluard Bollwerk International

Programme

Géraldine Chollet & Simon Mayer

(Lausanne & Andorf, Wien, Bruxelles)

ITMAR + SunBengSitting

Two dance solos from the backcountry

ITMAR is a mythical creature: part Hollywood diva, part saint, part dairy cow. Through her invention, Géraldine Chollet tells of her childhood in a patriarchal and religious rural community. In an extremely sensual and powerful performance, accompanied by the sound of two Talerschwinger (coin rollers), she portrays feminine archetypes that go far beyond submission and folksy kitsch.

In the dialect spoken in Upper Austria, ‘Sunbeng’ is the word for the sun-bathed bench found at the front of farmhouses. In SunBengSitting, Simon Mayer returns to his roots. He blends birdsong, yodelling and the sound of a chainsaw to create hypnotic loops and, with humour and tremendous physicality, breaks down the stereotypes of traditions, customs and masculinity.
